RISER plenary meeting at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center in Barcelona, Spain
The RISER project consortium met on the 4th and 5th of March for the first face-to-face plenary meeting since the kick-off. The meetings were hosted by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and led by the project coordinator Manolis Marazakis from FORTH-ICS. All partners were represented by at least two people, so it was great to have the opportunity to catch up with everyone in person.
The meetings went very well, with presentations updating everyone on the work being done across the various work packages and tasks. We were also able to discuss the upcoming deliverables and make a plan to tackle the various technical challenges that lie ahead. Overall, the presentations reassured us that everything is on track and progressing nicely.
We are very grateful to BSC for hosting the meetings. Everything was organised very well and the social dinner gave us an opportunity to unwind and sample some truly amazing Spanish food.
On the second day, Filipo Mantovani from BSC kindly gave us a tour of the MareNostrum 4, the most powerful supercomputer in Spain, housed inside the main hall of Terre Girona, a chapel built in the 1940s. A very impressive location indeed. BSC offers tours, which we highly recommend. If you’re interested please visit https://www.bsc.es/discover-bsc/visit-our-supercomputer. If you can’t make it in person, you can scroll to the end of the page and take the virtual tour.
